Laneway Housing (LWH) is a small house or cottage at the rear of a single family lot. The City of Vancouver unanimously approved the LWH pilot project on July 28, 2009. About 70,000 single-family lots across the city are eligible to add the new homes, which can only be built in the area usually reserved for a garage, and only used for personal use or rented and not stratified.
