We’re excited to let our readers know what we have just completed several construction projects with our long-time client, BC Housing! Working in partnership with the Canadian government, BC Housing is revitalizing social housing sites in need of repair and renovation in communities throughout the province, extending the life of these homes for British Columbians for years to come.
To that end, BC Housing created the Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Renewal Initiative, in which several SRO-hotels in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, Chinatown, and Gastown areas were to be renovated to help address Vancouver’s issue of homelessness and preserve affordable housing. Klondike Contracting has partnered with BC Housing to renovate these SRO buildings that contain small single rooms with shared bathroom and cooking facilities – providing safe and affordable accommodations for individuals at risk of homelessness.
Our staff have completed construction projects in multiple BC Housing buildings – the Flint Hotel, London Hotel, Savoy Hotel, Carl Rooms & Winters Hotel – and this included replacing doors & windows, painting, and brand-new electrical and fire security fixtures.
We’re proud to have played a part in upgrading and retro-fitting safe, secure and self-contained dwelling units for the city’s most vulnerable citizens. In the long term, updated amenities, dependable heat and hot-water availability is a crucial part of supportive housing and improving the residents’ quality of life!
